A vacation to Bequia and St. Vincent with a side trip to the Tobago Cayes & Mayreau was an unforgettable experience and adventure. We saw family on my dad's side including Aunt Hannah, Shirley, Daniella, Camile, Simone & Wayne while experiencing the beautiful countryside of Richmond Hill in St. Vincent. Equally amazing was a ferry ride to the small island of Mayreau, where my mom was born and grew up. Mayreau is a place of paradise and simplicity with kind and engaging people who welcomed us into their hearts. The locals of all these islands were accommodating and made us feel part of their every day life. A highlight was the "dollar" bus in Bequia. Small vans would go back and forth on the winding road to Port Elizabeth picking up locals, students and tourists. In these small vans they would pack as many as 20 people with food supplies, fishing gear and tools with everyone joking and participating in the managing of seating arrangements while very loud island music played in the background.  The tropics with it's abundance of fresh produce, tons of sunshine, enticing beaches, warm weather and entertaining locals made it difficult for us to leave it's charm.

I wrote this song and created this video for my Aunt Hannah who lives in St. Vincent.

On a very hot day in July, many friends and family gathered to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. With a melodic steel band, a gift of colourful lei's, rum punch to set you in the caribbean spirit, games and a sing-a-long to spice things up, the festivities went off without a hitch and was well received. Thanks everyone for your well wishes and being part of this wonderful and memorable day.

Here are some pictures and videos of Christmas eve at Leah and Gary's place. Their boys Andrew and David entertained us. Gary's mom celebrated her birthday and Gary's brother, Ed and his wife Cheryl attended. They brought their three boys, Jonathen, Adam and Daniel. It was an evening of many laughs, great conversation, great food and wine, music and of course, gifts.

We started our vacation in the north part of Portugal in the industrial and quaint city of Porto. We proceeded next to the port wine region of the Douro Valley. We then headed to the university town of Coimbra. Next, we zig-zagged over to the fishing village of Nazare on the west coast, making side trips to the intriguing villages & towns of Alcobaca, Obidos, Batalha and the holy town of Fatima. We crossed over into the dry plains of the Alentejo region to the Roman walled town of Evora. We then drove south to Tavira and Salema in the sunny and warm Algarve. We even made it out to the most south westerly position of Portugal, discovering Cape Sagres and St. Vincent. We ended our trip in bustling Lisbon, making day excursions to the Disney-like town of Sintra and historical Belem. 

We had the pleasure of meeting Patrick and Grace in Tavira, Portugal. They took us out for a wonderful lunch at this restaurant that served typical Portuguese food.
